I decided this Saturday instead of hanging around the house, the kids playing computer games, watching TV we would take a short road trip. Belle Buckle TN to the Belle Buckle Café. I’ve been telling my family how great the Belle Buckle Café is and you have to go. Come on now stop all the wining kids it will be fun. How far is? Oh….About an hour and a half. Oh…. The kids want to take the dog…. Ok….

Everyone got ready and off we went. I thought I would travel without a GPS this time as I’m trying to instill on my daughter how important it is to use the signs of the land and a good old fashion road map. Off interstate 65 North to Hwy 64 East to Hwy 231 North to Shelby Ville then right turn on Hwy 82. Not a problem.

Everything went well until we got into Fayetteville TN. I turned left, on what I thought was Hwy 231 North. Or at least I thought it was 231 North. But something just didn’t seem right. Being an instructor pilot and having flown over this area a few times. The terrain just didn’t look right. We were traveling North. The Sun was to my left, but it just didn’t seem right. No road signs so a map was no good. The kids were yelling we are hungry. I looked at my wife and said. “Honey break out the cell phone I think I turned to soon.” Sure enough too soon. The cell phone gave me turn by turn onto Lovers St. My wife wanted to take a few pictures, the dog had to do his business so, Break time everyone.

After a few pictures off to Belle Buckle TN. Yes I turned one mile to soon. Left turn on 231 North, Shelbyville TN 19 miles. It took longer to get through the town than to go the 19 miles due to road construction. Finally Hwy 82 east, 5 miles down the road, over the rail road track and guess what. No place to park. How can so many people want to eat on a Saturday at a town in the middle of no where?????

Ok finally found a place to park, Diane had to use the bath room, so…I walked the dog, she came back the line was as long as a church revival. She had to go, the kids were hungry the waiting time is 1 hour so….I will take them to the gas station so they can get a snack. Especially after drive 2 hours!

A short snack later, and upon return the wait was 30 minutes. The walls within the restaurant is covered with photos signed by famous country and western singer of today and the past. As for the food. It was ok but not worth the 2 hour drive just to eat. I had the pork chop. Scale one to 10. Maybe 5. My son had the shrimp (Fried). He gave it a three (3). Why…. To small and too much breading. My wife had the roast beef. Her score maybe 5. My daughter ordered the BBQ sandwich. Her score….a NINE (9). Oh. The corn bread was GREAT!

Oh guess what? I lost my glasses!!! After careful review of what we did we decided the glasses had to fall out of my pocket while at Lovers St. Yep they were there. What a relief!

Next week we will try another road trip and another restaurant.
